Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes in talks with Leeds over loan move

Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is in talks with Championship side Leeds United over a loan move.

The Brazilian, who turned 33 last week, is third choice at White Hart Lane and keen to play with a place in his country's World Cup squad at stake.

Gomes signed for Tottenham from PSV Eindhoven in 2008 for a fee of £7.8 million but has found limited playing time at White Hart Lane in recent seasons.

In 2011, Spurs signed Brad Friedel and Gomes was dropped to the bench. Gomes then slipped further down the pecking order when France international Hugo Lloris arrived from Lyon a year later to claim the number one Jersey.

Capped 11 times for Brazil, Gomes spent the second half of last season on loan at German club Hoffenheim.

However, having gained the captain's armband at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena, Gomes' season was cut short when he broke his hand with a month of the campaign remaining.

Leeds also held talks with Stoke City over a loan move for Jack Butland on Monday but manager Brian McDermott has now turned his attention to Gomes and hopes to agree a deal before Leeds take on Middlesbrough on Saturday.
