Hugo Lloris is set to return to competitive football for the first time since his head injury when France take on Ukraine in their World Cup play-off tomorrow.

The Tottenham goalkeeper played on despite appearing to be knocked unconscious towards the end of his club’s 0-0 draw at Everton on November 3, and was then left out of Spurs’ next two matches.

But Lloris has taken a full part in training sessions for France this week and is expected to take his place in goal for tomorrow’s first leg in Kiev. The return leg is on Tuesday, with the winner progressing to next summer’s Finals in Brazil.

Lloris’ eventual return will be a relief for Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas, whose handling of his goalkeeper’s injury, and its aftermath, has been called into question.

Should Lloris suffer no further reaction during these matches for his country, he will almost certainly play for Spurs in their next game, at Manchester City in 10 days’ time.
