Harry Kane continued his terrific Boxing Day scoring record and then joked: “I’ll have to have Christmas dinner more often!”

The England captain’s second half goal helped Tottenham come from a goal down to beat Brighton in the day’s early kick-off, with Dele Alli eventually scoring the winner after Adam Webster had put the Seagulls ahead before the break.

Kane’s strike was his eighth in his last five Boxing Day outings, and speaking to Amazon after the game, he suggested his festive prematch meal might have something to do with the hot streak.

"I enjoy it,” Kane said. “The games come thick and fast. I don't know what it is, maybe the Christmas dinner gives me a bit of a boost. I might have to have it more often.

"[We put in a] real shift today going 1-0 down against a good side. We dug deep today to get the win."
