Tottenham will assess Heung-min Son's hamstring injury before a decision is made on whether the forward can feature for South Korea later this month.

Son pulled up after 18 minutes of Sunday's north London derby defeat to Arsenal and was replaced by Erik Lamela.

Nonetheless, the South Korea captain has been included in the squad for the friendly against Japan on March 25 as part of their preparations for 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The call-up has not come as a surprise for Spurs but they will be reluctant to allow Son to feature in Yokohama if assessments this week show damage to his hamstring.

South Korea boss Pablo Bento is aware of Son’s fitness setback, of which Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was yet to learn the full extent.

"We will have to wait to find out the extent of his injury and the test result," Bento said this morning.

After the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, Mourinho said: "It's muscular. Muscular is always not easy ... He is a guy who normally recovers very, very well from any kind of injury."
