Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg says he showed he can be an important player for Tottenham in the second half of the season in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Brentford, after confirming that he will not be leaving the club on Deadline Day.

Hojbjerg and Brennan Johnson came off the bench at half-time with Spurs trailing 1-0 and helped spark a dramatic turnaround, with three goals within 10 minutes of the restart before Ivan Toney pulled one back for the visitors.

The Dane has made just seven starts under Ange Postecoglou and been linked with a move this month, but his lawyer has said he is happy to stay at Spurs.

"When the lawyer says it, I think we have to listen! So yeah, I can confirm that," Hojbjerg told Standard Sport after the Brentford game.

“I definitely feel I can help the team. Again, I showed again that I’m ready and of course - like everyone - I want to start every game. There’s no secret in that.

"We’re all ambitious but I think the important thing is to stay ambitious on behalf of the team and this is the main thing, that we can all keep our ambitions from the team’s perspective. It doesn’t matter whoever it is, we have to perform for the team.

"[The second half] was good, the team really stepped up second half and I think I helped the team well, Brennan helped the team well so I think it was good."

Hojbjerg turned down interest from French club Lyon this month while Italian giants Juventus are also monitoring the 28-year-old.

The win over Brentford moved Spurs into the top four and Hojbjerg says part of his motivation for staying put is a sense the club is fighting to achieve something this season - although he refused to set specific targets or look beyond Saturday's visit to Everton.

“Of course, this is for me the key," he said. "The key is that we are playing for something. I always said in the past like I say now, is what drives me is the purpose of fighting for something and I definitely feel that Tottenham is fighting for something.

“This is for me the key and we are here to push. I’m here to help, I’m here to improve always and this is my target.

“I think next step is always what we’re looking for, next match, next win and that’s what we’re looking for. The talking is not coming from me, the next game and the next step - that’s what we’re looking for."

Hojbjerg has not always appeared a good fit for Postecoglou's fast-paced football but he has been a steady presence in the midfield, and helped the hosts establish a foothold against the Bees as goals from Destiny Udogie, Johnson and Richarlison turned the game on its head.

"I am enjoying [the football]," Hojbjerg added. "You have to stay steady and you have to be aware at all times because we are playing very aggressive and front-footed football so it’s definitely something that is keeping you alive. It’s nice."
