Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has today been included in England's Under-21 squad for the second time in his career.

Winks operated on the fringes of Mauricio Pochettino's first-team set up last season but has developed into a serious option this term.

The 20-year-old has made a total of 31 senior appearances for Spurs in the current campaign, including 19 in the Premier League as he continues to press his claim for regular game time amid fierce competition for places.

Winks made his Under-21s debut in a 3-2 friendly defeat to France in November 2016 and has again caught the eye of new Young Lions boss Aidy Boothroyd, who was appointed manager on a permanent basis in February.

Chelsea youngsters Tammy Abraham, Isaiah Brown, Nathaniel Chalobah and Lewis Baker have also been included.

So too have Arsenal defender Rob Holding and Fulham forward Cauley Woodrow.

Boothroyd's side are set to face Germany (March 24) and Denmark (March 27) during the upcoming international break and the 46-year-old is relishing both games.

“These are two very testing games," he told the FA's official website.

“Although I’ve been in the job on an interim basis, for my first game to be Germany away – they don’t come much more difficult than that.

“But that’s what we want. We want to test ourselves against the best."
