Tottenham defender Danny Rose is under investigation by police having been arrested after crashing his car in Northampton on Wednesday morning.

The 30-year-old, who was released from custody overnight, was arrested by Northamptonshire Police on suspicion of dangerous driving after hitting the central reservation on the A45 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It is unclear why Rose was in the area, with the arrest happening shortly after 4am, while his Spurs team-mates were preparing to face Stoke City in the Carabao Cup, where they won 3-1 to seal a place in the semi-finals.

Rose has not played for Tottenham since a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in January and spent the second half of last season on loan with Newcastle, returning to find himself excluded from both the Premier League and Europa League squads.

A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “We can confirm a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving on the A45 in Northampton shortly after 4am yesterday (Wednesday, December 23).

"The 30-year-old has been released under investigation.”

Rose is thought to have avoided any serious harm but The Sun newspaper quoted a source stating that the 29-cap England international was lucky to escape the crash alive.

Standard Sport have approached Tottenham for comment.
