Tottenham player ratings

Hugo Lloris 6

Largely untested, aside from a couple of routine saves including an acrobatic effort to deny Darnell Furlong.

Matt Doherty 7

Looked set for another underwhelming outing until his excellent cross made the winner for Kane. Does not look entirely comfortable in a back four but proved decisive this afternoon.

Sergio Reguilon 7

After recovering from flu, the Spaniard was off the pace in the opening stages but grew into the game. Offered attacking impetus after the interval, including a long-range effort fisted away by Sam Johnstone.

Spurs' outstanding player in a drab first half, making two crucial interventions. A composed and committed display in his third start in a week was one of the few real plusses for Spurs.

Toby Alderweireld 6

Solid defensively and had one of Spurs' better chances of the afternoon when his header from Son's corner was saved. Passing radar a little off.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 6

Typically robust, all-action performance at both ends but wasted a couple of good positions in the final third. Still waiting to see him alongside Ndombel and Lo Celso at the same time.

Moussa Sissoko 5

For all his qualities, simply did not do enough with the ball and his indecision occasionally slowed down attacks. A man for many occasions, arguably not this one.

Tanguy Ndombele 7

A bright spot for Spurs in the first half. Full of tricks and quick passing, including a ball for Son which should have led to a goal. Is surely better as a press-resistant No.8 than in the 10 role, though. Foot injury which forced him off may be a concern.

Gareth Bale 5

Bale struggled
AP

Still looks short of full fitness at this level on his first Premier League start since he returned to the club. That said, his free-kick nearly set up Kane and involved in the best move of the first half, squandered by Son.

Heung-min Son 5

Should have done better with Tottenham's best opening but dithered in the box and saw his shot blocked. Part of a pattern of generally taking too many touches and looks like he could use a rest.

Harry Kane 8 | Star man

Kane secured three points for Spurs
AP

Created a fine chance for Bale at the start of the season half but otherwise was too selfish in the final third, including by taking a free-kick off the Welshman. Usual array of crisp passing felt less effective with Son subdued, but scored the winner.

Substitutes

Giovani Lo Celso (Ndombele 64') 7

Missed a glorious chances within minutes of his introduction but added bite and impetus for the final 30 minutes. Feels like a must-starter when fully fit.

Carlos Vinicius (Bale 78') N/A

Forced Johnstone into his best moment of the afternoon with a low drive and added a threat after his introduction.

Lucas Moura (Sissoko 78') N/A

Helped to stretch West Brom with fresh legs but was not fully involved.

Subs not used: Hart, Rodon, Aurier, Davies
