Tottenham's injury crisis has been plunged to new depths after Belgium manager Roberto Martinez revealed defender Jan Vertonghen could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

The Belgian missed Spurs' Champions League defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday after he was forced off with a hamstring problem during their Premier League win over Huddersfield.

Vertonghen would have been set to link up with his Belgium teammates following this weekend's clash with Cardiff, but Martinez has revealed he could also miss November's international games.

"It's bad news. He could miss two Belgium camps," the former Everton manager said.

Maurico Pochettino was without a number of key figures for the Barcelona clash, with Dele Alli, still struggling after a problem picked up with England, Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele all missing, among others.

Should Martinez's estimate be correct, Pochettino will be without Vertonghen, who played all but one of last season's Premier League games, for games against Cardiff, West Ham, Manchester City, Wolves and a crucial Champions League meeting with PSV Eindhoven.
