QPR have emerged as strong favourites to sign Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor today as manager Harry Redknapp frantically tries to strengthen his squad.

Spurs are prepared to let the Togo international leave after he fell behind Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Redknapp has been told he can only sign players on loan and the 30-year-old’s £100,000-a-week salary is an issue.

However, Redknapp is desperate to sign a centre forward to help ease the burden on top scorer Charlie Austin and is being given funds to compete for Adebayor’s signature.

Stoke, Paris Saint Germain and Roma have also registered an interest, but have struggled to agree a deal.

Adebayor has a good relationship with Redknapp from their time together at Spurs. He joined on loan from Manchester City in 2011 before agreeing a permanent £5m switch a year later.

He scored 18 goals in his first season under him in north London, although injury restricted him to just eight in 27 starts the next.

Things have deteriorated even further this term after a brief renaissance under Tim Sherwood in the second half of the last campaign and he has fallen foul of the fans after criticising their lack of support at home matches.

Adebayor was hoping to move to a club challenging for trophies and still has a major decision to make over whether he wants to join a side that is struggling to avoid relegation.

But unlike at Spurs, where he has started just nine League games this season, Redknapp will promise him regular first team football and will play him up front alongside Austin.

QPR are also considering a move for another Tottenham misfit in Aaron Lennon, who is hesitating over a loan move to Hull City.

A number of other targets are also being pursued, including Wolves winger Bakary Sako and Rubin Kazan midfielder Yann M’Vila.

Having sold Jordan Mutch to Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £5.75m last week, Redknapp is also hoping to offload Adel Taarabt and is prepared to listen to offers for Junior Hoilett.
