Tottenham announce permanent deal for Cristian Romero on five-year contract

Cristian Romero has joined Tottenham on a permanent deal.

The Premier League club announced a five-year contract for the Argentine defender on Tuesday after an initial loan spell from Atalanta.

Last season, Romero made 30 appearances for Spurs as hamstring and hip injuries obstructed his time in the line-up and he is currently on the recovery path from an adductor issue.

The window to sign the 24-year-old permanently closed later this month with Tottenham previously agreeing to a fee worth £46.5million.

Tottenham face West Ham on Wednesday looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season and Antonio Conte has delivered up an update on whether Romero will be fit to return after two games out.

“About Romero and [Oliver] Skipp,” he said.

“Today they did the training session with us. For sure we have to wait, to tell that [if] they are completely recovered, but this is a good sign for us, for the player.”
