Ange Postecoglou confirms Tottenham transfer plan with new centre-back possible

Micky van de Ven may not be the only arrival in defensive overhaul

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Tottenham remain interested in signing another centre-back this summer.

The club officially announced the £43m signing of Netherlands U21 international Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg earlier this week but remain keen to bring in another player there.

Joe Rodon has joined Leeds on loan while Davinson Sanchez has been put up for sale as Postecoglou looks to stamp more of his imprint on the Spurs squad.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba had been of interest but the club remain some way off the German club’s £40m valuation, while Torino’s Perr Schuurs has recently been touted as a target.

Spurs have also signed highly-rated centre-half Ashley Phillips from Blackburn but the 19-year-old is not currently considered a first-team player.

Speaking after the loss to Barcelona on Tuesday, the Spurs boss said: “Yeah potentially [signing another central defender].

“Again we’ve got to make sure that we keep the squad manageable and see what happens with outgoings, but yeah the potential is there to bring in one more.”
