Tottenham today confirmed the signing of Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer on a five-year contract.
As Standard Sport revealed in March, centre-back Wimmer joins Spurs from German side Cologne and becomes their first signing of the summer.
The 22-year-old is 6ft 2ins, left-footed and can also play at left-back. He enjoyed a breakthrough season and helped Cologne avoid relegation in the Bundesliga.
“Kevin's gone on to become a regular in the Cologne defence, as they earned promotion to the German top-flight," said a statement on the Spurs website. “He was a standout performer in their first season back in the Bundesliga.”

Wimmer, who will join up with his new team-mates in pre-season, moved to Cologne in 2012 from LASK Linz in his native Austria. He made 72 appearances in total during his time in Germany and has also been capped twice by Austria.
Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino has identified central defence as an area that needs strengthening.
Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches will be allowed to leave White Hart Lane this summer, while Federico Fazio has had an inconsistent season. Jan Vertonghen’s remains unclear after he revealed he would not be signing a new contract.
