Tottenham are ready to step up interest in Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi before the end of the season.

Spurs have been following the Belgium international since he was at Standard Liege and considered signing him in the summer of 2014, before Marseille made their move.

It is thought Tottenham have been particularly impressed by Batshuayi's work this season, during which they have watched him several times.

The 22-year-old has scored 16 goals in all competitions, in a side who have struggled for consistency and are only 10th in Ligue 1.

Harry Kane has been Tottenham's only senior centre-forward this term and Spurs are keen to have more options next season, when they are likely to be playing in the Champions League.

Stoke are believed to have made an offer for Batshuayi in the closing hours of the winter transfer but if the striker is to leave Marseille, his target is to play in Europe's main club competition.
