Kieran Trippier set to join Atletico Madrid as Tottenham agree transfer fee

Standard Sport16 July 2019

Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier is due to have a medical with Atletico Madrid after the clubs agreed a transfer fee.

Spurs have been looking to offload the 28-year-old as part of a summer overhaul and he has been linked with a move abroad for much of the summer.

Trippier stands to significantly increase his current £50,000-per-week wages in Madrid after Atleti agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £25million.

Napoli, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all been linked with Trippier. The former Burnley man had expressed his desire to stay in the Premier League, whether with Tottenham or elsewhere, but now looks bound for La Liga.

Trippier returned to Spurs training earlier in July and was poised to travel with the squad on their pre-season tour of Singapore and Shanghai this week.
