Dele Alli says the problems at Tottenham have been blown out of proportion and insists the players still have “100 per cent trust” in Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham lifted some of the gloom surrounding the club with a 5-0 win against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday.

A difficult run of form has led to suggestions of a growing crisis, with a numbers of players eyeing the exit at Spurs, but Alli believes there has been an over-reaction to their early-season dip.

Alli claims the Tottenham squad is fully behind Pochettino and feels the players owe their manager for the success they have had together in recent years.

He said: “A lot of us would not be where we are now if it was not for him.All we can do is thank him. We have always trusted him 100 per cent and we are going to keep doing that.

“We are a team. When things don’t go our way it is easy for people to try to get at the manager but we need to look at ourselves as players. We are doing that and are going to keep working hard. We are 1,000 per cent behind him.

“Since we have been together here we probably have not been through this situation. It is a new experience for a lot of us, that is probably why the reaction has been what it has. People are making a bigger deal out of it than maybe what it actually is. Every club have it where they have a little bit of a dip. When we are so used to winning, it is important we show our character and how strong we really are as a team and a club.

“We know we have hit a dip but no one in our team is panicking with the results and the form. We know how good we are and the quality we have got in this team. It was an important win for us but we know it is just the start.”

Tottenham produced one of their best team performances for months to thrash Red Star and revive their hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout stage.

Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son scored twice and Erik Lamela completed the rout to give Spurs a timely confidence boost ahead of their match at Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

Alli believes Spurs are still suffering following last season’s Champions League Final defeat against Jurgen Klopp’s side and hopes those scars can inspire them to a victory at Anfield.

He said: “It was disappointing in the Champions League Final. We still feel a little bit hurt from the Champions League so we have got to channel it in the right way. We believe whoever we play we can beat. Liverpool are in great form and they are a good side but we will be going there looking for the win.”

Alli has endured a difficult 18 months but the midfielder started last night and hopes his dip in form is behind him as he bids to get his career back on track.

“People are always going to have their own opinion,” he said. “I am feeling very good and happy to be back in the team and playing. I cannot take it [my place] for granted. I do not want to be back to where I was, I want to be better than that. I have got to keep working hard and trying to improve.”
