Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino names alternative man of the match after EFL Cup win over Chelsea

1/32

Mauricio Pochettino was delighted with the "man of the match" performance from Paulo Gazzaniga in Tottenham's narrow League Cup victory over Chelsea.

The Argentine has leapfrogged Michel Vorm in the Spurs pecking order this season and showed exactly why with his performance as Harry Kane's penalty saw Spurs take a one-goal lead into the second leg.

The former Southampton and Gillingham keeper, who has also deputised for Hugo Lloris in both the Premier League and Champions League this season, made his eighth start of the campaign on Tuesday night, and kept a fourth clean sheet.

"I think he was very good. I am so happy with his performance," Pochettino said.

"For me he was the man of the match, and with Harry Kane of course who scored the goal, I think he was so good. We are very happy.

"We have one of the best keepers in the world in Hugo Lloris. We have Michel Vorm, another keeper that can play in any club in the Premier League and now of course Paulo Gazzaniga.

"We have three goalkeepers, plus the younger ones, who have a lot of quality and I am so pleased to have this type of player with us."

Gazzaniga will likely be between the posts once more when Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge on January 24 for the second leg.
