Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was left "screaming in agony" after suffering a nasty arm injury against Brighton on Saturday.

With just three minutes of the game gone, the club captain dropped a routine cross from Pascal Gross on his goal line before stumbling backwards, leaving Neal Maupay with a simple header.

Lloris put his left arm out to stop his fall and replays appeared to show it buckle and twist under his body.

The game was delayed by seven minutes as Lloris was given oxygen on the pitch and then stretchered from the field.

Commentator Des Kelly, at the Amex Stadium for BT Sport, tweeted soon after that the goalkeeper was given increased pain relief before being sent to hospital.

"As reported on air: Hugo Lloris was screaming in agony as was carried through the tunnel," he tweeted.

"He was given extra morphine to counter the pain. He has been taken hospital by ambulance."

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea tweeted "Lloris" with a prayer emoji, following by Peter Schmeichel with "Get well soon Hugo."

After the game, a 3-0 loss for Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino conceded that the injury could be serious.

“I think the news is not good," he told reporters.

"We have to wait, they are going to explain the real situation. Everyone saw on the pitch when he landed that it wasn’t a good situation.”
