Tottenham's Lucas Moura has been rewarded for last season’s Champions League heroics with a new contract until 2024.
The Brazilian – who wrote his name into Spurs folklore with a hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final win at Ajax in May – has signed a one-year extension to the five-and-a-half-year deal he agreed in January 2018, earning a pay rise on his reported £75,000-a-week salary.
Lucas joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain for £24.5m and initially struggled to make an impact in Mauricio Pochettino’s first team.
But he played a crucial role in one of the best seasons in Spurs’ modern history last year as they finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the Champions League Final, only to lose to Liverpool in Madrid.
He was controversially dropped for the 2-0 defeat, despite booking Spurs’ place in the knockouts with a late equaliser at Barcelona and cementing his place as a modern club hero with a second-half hat-trick in Amsterdam as Spurs came from 2-0 down to win 3-3 and progress on away goals.
He has said he bares no grudge to Pochettino about dropping to the bench at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Lucas also scored 10 goals in 33 Premier League appearances, including a double at Manchester United.
