Mauricio Pochettino has hailed Christian Eriksen as one of the best players in the Premier League.
After a patchy first half of the season, the Danish playmaker has scored three times in his last three games and appears to be recapturing his best form.
Tottenham have been keen since the summer for Eriksen to sign a new contract and the 23-year-old revealed an agreement was close after scoring twice in the 4-1 win over Sunderland last weekend.
Pochettino said: “It was good for him to score in the last game and it was important because he is one of the best players we have, one of the best in England. There is no doubt that in the future he will show his qualities.
“It was good for him to recover the feeling of scoring, which is always important. He is still very young and sometimes there will be ups and downs but there is no doubt about Christian Eriksen, or his quality.
“In some periods you might not be at your best but it is a good start for him to play well and score goals. It’s good for the team.”
Tottenham travel to Leicester on Wednesday for their FA Cup third-round replay, the third time they will have faced Claudio Ranieri’s team in 11 days.

Spurs have not beaten Leicester in three attempts this season, with two draws and one win for the Foxes, but Pochettino is confident his team can break their duck.
The Argentine is likely to rotate as he acknowledged it would be “a big risk” for certain players to start Wednesday’s game and Saturday’s derby at Crystal Palace.
Pochettino added: “We need to show we are better than Leicester and to win the game, whoever plays.”
