Tottenham's defeat to Newcastle 'wasn't fair', according to Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The north Londoners took the lead through Eric Dier's first-half header and appeared destined to claim the three points that they needed to force their way into the top-four.

But Steve McClaren's side rallied after the break and secured a surprise victory in the closing stages thanks to goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez.

Spurs' 14-game unbeaten record was brought to an end with defeat to the Magpies and Pochettino was disappointed that his side failed to maintain their focus for the entire game.

"We are very disappointed in the dressing room," he told Sky Sports.

"It wasn’t fair the final result, we need to explain the second half because it was very different to the first.

"It’s difficult to explain.

"But my feelings are disappointment, because the game is under control. You have to compete for 95 minutes. It’s true that the second half we gave them chances.

"The first half was fantastic, we played very well. One of the best games that we have shown but in the second half, yes maybe there was a lack of competitiveness and we gave them an opportunity to score."

"This is our 16th league game and our second defeat. It is a bad feeling but we need to work hard and look forward," declared the Argentine.
