Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli is one of 14 uncapped players to be included in Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 squad for the games against the USA and Norway.

The 20-year-old, who scored his first Premier League goal in Spurs' 1-1 draw with Leicester City last weekend, has represented his country at various youth levels and is joined by Liverpool pair Jordon Ibe and Joe Gomez.

Gomez signed for Brendan Rodgers' side from Charlton this summer and was initially expected to be sent out on loan.

However, the teenager has established himself as Liverpool's first-choice left back and has started all three of the Merseysiders' Premier League fixtures this season.

The rapid progress the youngster has enjoyed at Anfield has come as no surprise to his former boss, Guy Luzon, who tipped Gomez to play for is country prior to the squad announcement earlier today.

Manchester United striker James Wilson and Everton full back Brendan Galloway have also been included, but the latter suffered a knee injury against Manchester City and could be ruled out.

Gunners pair Calum Chambers and Chuba Akpom have been deemed worthy of inclusion along with Blues duo Nathaniel Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Eric Dier, who withdrew from the squad to focus on his exploits at Spurs last season, has been welcomed back into the fold.

Southgate has named a 23-man squad and the Young Lions will take on USA’s Olympic hopefuls on Thursday 3 September before starting their Euro Under-21 Qualifying campaign against Norway on Monday 7 September.
