Transfer Deadline Day: 10 things to look out for

1/10
James Benge1 September 2015

Transfer deadline day is Christmas for most football fans. It begins bright and early in the morning, full of expectation and joy. But by the early evening there’s tears, recrimination and someone is getting in trouble for brandishing a sex toy.

But with the 6pm deadline fast approaching it’s best to simply take a seat, grit your teeth and enjoy the chaos ahead.

And remember it could be worse; you could be a Sky Sports News reporter outside a football stadium, grimly awaiting news of a Joleon Lescott medical as the rain hammers down on this final day of summer.

Anyway, perhaps this could be the season it all changes. Usually by now Chelsea are sitting back smugly with an array of expensive talent purchased months in advance, this year they’re scrabbling around for anyone to fill the John Stones-shaped hole in their defence.

As for Manchester United, what on earth would Sir Alex Ferguson think of the ever-growing madness that is afflicting Old Trafford? If a 19-year-old is considered worth over £30 million on the back of one good game against Arsenal how much might Charlie Austin set Louis van Gaal’s team back.

With Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and the other London clubs all set for a thrilling and chaotic final few hours Standard Sport has identified ten things to look forward to on deadline day. See if you can spot them all.
