Tottenham the 'only' option for Jack Grealish with Manchester United transfer unlikely, says Darren Bent

Jack Grealish should seriously consider the option of staying at Aston Villa this summer, believes Darren Bent, who sees Tottenham as his only possible destination.

The 24-year-old has been a transfer target for Manchester United in recent months, but the Red Devils have reportedly now shifted their focus away from the midfielder with Jadon Sancho the priority.

With the January acquisition of Bruno Fernandes, alongside Paul Pogba's resurgence, the Englishman is no longer as attractive a proposition - particularly with his value skyrocketing following Villa's Premier League survival.

And Bent believes Grealish - who scored the crucial goal that secured Villa's survival in their final day draw against West Ham - may now be struggling for options.

“You start looking about and I’ve had this discussion with so many different people, it’s where does he go?” Bent told Football Insider.

“He’s not going to go to Manchester United because they’ve got Fernandes and Pogba, and I know you need a squad but even at the minute it looks like they’re hell-bent on getting Jadon Sancho so he’s not going to go there.

“Manchester City, they don’t need him – they’ve got [Phil] Foden and their squad is very, very good, they just don’t need him.

“Liverpool don’t need him, where’s he going to get in there? They’ve already got their front three and midfield set.

“He’s not going to go to Chelsea. Could he go to Leicester? Well, they’ve got [James] Maddison so you’d probably say not.

“So the only club I can see him at is Tottenham – now they didn’t want to pay the £25m years ago so are they going to pay £60-70 million? I can’t see it.

“Honestly, at the minute he needs to weigh up and think about where he’s going to go – he could stay at Villa where he’s the captain, the main man and his boyhood club and he knows he’d be a god if he was to stay.”

With Tottenham estimating the coronavirus pandemic has cost them in the region of £200million, the north London club are expected to utilise free transfers, loans and swap deals this summer.

Standard Sport understands Jose Mourinho is prioritising a move for a right-back and an understudy to Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is on the verge of completing a £15million move, with Kyle Walker-Peters moving the other way.
