David Moyes says West Ham contract talks can wait until the summer

David Moyes has no intention of opening contract talks with West Ham early, despite the club now being safe from relegation.

Moyes, who took over in November with the Hammers in the bottom three, has fulfilled his brief at the London Stadium by keeping them up with two games to spare.

Yet the West Ham hierarchy have made no indications as to whether they want Moyes to stay, while the Scot says he still has a decision to make as well.

And even though their survival was guaranteed after beating Leicester on Saturday, any contract negotiations will not be brought forward.

"We have always said we will talk after the end of the season so we will wait until then," said Moyes.

"It's always the way I wanted it and I won't change my views until we get the last two games out of the way.

"I don't think there is any temptation (to start early negotiations).

"We are putting things in place, like pre-season, as much as we can, but ultimately I have got a decision to make and the club has as well."

West Ham face Moyes' former club Manchester United at the London Stadium on Thursday night.

Despite the pressure being off, Moyes insists his players will not be relaxing.

"No, far from it," he added. "We know the pressure of any relegation is not there anymore, but we will try and play the best we can.

"We have picked up points in the last six or seven weeks and showed real togetherness as a group.

"The players know that if we can win a couple of more games than we can get ourselves higher up the league.

"Then you might have been thinking, 'What was the worry about', but overall, I have to say well done to the players.

"When we came in we had nine points and it was difficult, but I have to say the players have done the job, got the points and scored a few goals.

"We need to improve defensively but all credit to the players."
