Mesut Ozil has heard good things about new Arsenal signing Sead Kolasinac

New Arsenal signing Sead Kolasinac has the backing of German international Julian Draxler to make the grade at the Emirates, according to Mesut Ozil.

Kolasinac departed Schalke for Arsenal on a free transfer earlier this summer, the first piece of business for the Gunners in a window that has also seen them break their transfer record to bring in Alexandre Lacazette for up to £52million.

The 24-year-old was the Bundesliga's left-back of the season last year and has shown the versatility to play either in a back four or as a wing-back.

He evidently made an impression on Draxler, the Paris Saint-Germain forward who played for Schalke between 2011 and 2015, whose close friend Ozil revealed he had received rave reviews on Kolasinac.

"I’ve spoken to a few players who have played with him at Schalke, like Draxler,” Ozil told Arsenal Player. “They said to me that Sead is a really good player with a character that will fit our team.

"What I’ve seen of him on the training pitch so far is that he’s very strong, but character-wise he seems to be a really nice guy. We’re happy to have him in our team."

Bosnian international Kolasinac was born in Karlsruhe in southwest Germany and will join an Arsenal squad increasingly stocked with his compatriots, including Ozil and club captain Per Mertesacker.

"As a new player, you want to know about where you can live, what you can do, which restaurants are good," Ozil added. "If he has any questions, my door is always open to him.

“I don’t know how his English is, but it’s definitely good for him to have so many players and coaches who can speak [German with] and with whom you can communicate. I think that’s definitely very good at the start.”
