Troy Deeney to stay at Watford on transfer deadline day despite January interest

Troy Deeney is likely to stay at Watford after a month of uncertainty about his future.

West Brom wanted to sign the Watford captain but cooled their interest in the striker after they signed Daniel Sturridge on loan from Liverpool.

Deeney will now lead the line for Watford as they bid to keep clear of the bottom of the Premier League.

The 29-year-old missed the 1-0 defeat against Southampton in the FA Cup on Saturday because of illness but he is due to return at Stoke.

Watford loan signing Gerard Deulofeu could make his debut after the 23-year-old winger joined from Barcelona until the end of the season.

New head coach Javi Gracia has been suffering from flu but he is expected to be in the dugout

Watford have midfielder Tom Cleverley back from a leg injury but they are still without goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes because of a back strain.
