Uefa have opened disciplinary proceedings against the two Romanian officials at the centre of the alleged race storm during the Champions League clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir in December.

Fourth official Sebastian Coltescu is reported to have used the words "ala negru" — which in English translates to "the black guy" — when being asked by referee Octavian Sovre who he should send off after an incident on the touchline 14 minutes into the match at the Parc des Princes.

Pierre Webo, the Basaksehir assistant coach, was then shown a red card by Hategan and players from both sides, led by Kylian Mbappe and Demba Ba, voiced their dismay as both teams walked off the pitch in protest.

The match was abandoned and replayed the following day with a new set of officials.

A statement from Uefa read: "Following an investigation conducted by a Uefa Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector regarding the events that led to the 2020-21 Uefa Champions League match between Paris Saint-Germain and İstanbul Basaksehir FK on December 8, 2020 being abandoned, proceedings have been opened against Mr. Sebatian Constantin Coltescu and Mr. Octavian Sovre for a potential violation of Article 11 of the Uefa Disciplinary Regulations."

Article 11 states that member associations, clubs and players must "comply with the principles of ethical conduct, loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship".
