Uwe Rosler’s so solid Brentford crew have promotion in their hands

Brentford boss Uwe Rosler never dreamed of gaining automatic promotion but last night’s 2-0 victory away at Crewe has put his side in a strong position.

Goals from Bradley-Wright Phillips and Marcello Trotta moved Brentford up to third in League One with a game in hand over Bournemouth, who are two points ahead in second.

Rosler admits he never expected to be in such a strong situation but four wins from their final four games will ensure Brentford are in the second tier of English football next season for only the second time in 59 years.

“We’ve put ourselves in a fantastic position now,” said Rosler. “It’s a dream come true. I didn’t expect to be in this sort of position and now we must recover, motivate and highlight what we have to do to win games.”

Brentford face cash-strapped Portsmouth on Saturday and Rosler is confident his side will keep their promotion chase on track.

“This win gives us such a boost and at home we are a force,” he added. “Portsmouth are dangerous and fighting for their lives, we know that. But I think in the spirit we will have on Saturday, we give ourselves a good chance.”
