Tottenham and France captain Hugo Lloris admits he was “surprised and sad” to learn of sex tape blackmail scandal that has hit the France national squad.
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was arrested last week over a plot to blackmail a France team-mate Mathieu Valbuena, and was held overnight by police in Versailles.
Benzema has since returned to Spain to continue his recovery from the hamstring injury he picked up on international duty last month. He denies any involvement in the alleged attempt to extort money from Valbuena.
Neither player has been called up by Didier Deschamps for the forthcoming matches against Germany and England, but Lloris insists that both Benzema and Valbuena have the squad’s full support.
"I am a little bit surprised and sad,” said the France captain. “They are two major elements of the selection and two likeable people.”
“It is delicate and surprising to see them in this kind of situation, but they know they have our support and that we think of them."
"We hope that justice will do the job and especially the situation calms down around this story.
"The non-sport sometimes takes over what may happen on the ground and a little more importance so it is unfortunate. It's a shame but we must live with that."
