Venky’s: We’re here to stay at Blackburn Rovers

There was more bad news for Blackburn fans today with owners, Venky’s, insisting they want to stay at the club for years.

Relegation from the Premier League, confirmed by a 1-0 defeat to Wigan on Monday, capped a miserable campaign for supporters, who have staged regulars protests against the owners and manager Steve Kean.

But director B Balaji Rao said: “We are here for the long haul. We have absolutely no intentions of selling. Our entire family has fallen in love with the club. We cannot sell it.”

Rao declined to comment on Kean’s future although it was reported today the boss would meet the owners in India on Tuesday for talks about the summer transfer budget.

The director expects some of the squad to move but is hopeful of a quick return to the top flight.

“Those players who want to leave may do so but 80 per cent of them want to stay,” said Rao.

“We were not expecting to be relegated. It was the saddest bit of news for me since my mother passed away. But we’ll bounce back within a year.”
