A despondent Vicente del Bosque would not be drawn on whether he will remain as Spain manager after their disastrous exit from the World Cup.

Holders Spain were comprehensively beaten 2-0 by Chile tonight, after they had been hammered by the Netherlands 5-1 last week, but the Spanish coach refused to make any decisions immediately after the game.

He said: "It's true that when such things happen during a World Cup or a tournament like this then it has consequences but I don't want to start thinking about that right now. We have time to analyse that and it is not the right time now.

“We must take a decision over what is best for Spanish football - and that includes my situation. We were certainly inferior to our rivals here at the finals. It is not the moment to think about the future."

The manager struggled to explain how his side, who also won Euro 2008 and Euro 2012, had capitulated so spectacularly.

“It hurts, but in today’s game we were a bit timid. We had a bit more play in second half, but not enough to even up the score.”

Spain play Australia on Monday in a meaningless game with both sides already eliminated.
