Middlesbrough 0-2 Chelsea

Victor Moses is confident Chelsea can cause an upset by beating Manchester United in their FA Cup quarter-final clash.

Chelsea booked their place in the last eight with an unconvincing 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough last night. They now have to take on the runaway Premier League leaders, who are 19 points above them in the table, at Old Trafford in 10 days.

Moses (above) is aware Chelsea will be huge underdogs to win the tie but believes they have the talent to pull off a shock result. He said: “United are probably the toughest team [left in the competition].

“We’re looking forward to it. It’s not going to be an easy game, United have quality players and everyone will expect them to win.

“They have quality players from the back to the front. We just have to take each game as it comes — make sure we win games. That’s the most important thing. We can’t be talking about United playing us, we have to concentrate on ourselves.

“We have quality players here, they have good players, too. If we work together as a team, I can see us really going far and beating United but it’s not going to be easy.”

For Chelsea to keep hold of the trophy they won last May, they will have to play a lot better against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side than they did against Middlesbrough.

Despite facing a Championship team that had lost seven of their last nine games, Chelsea struggled to make their supposed superior quality count. It took a fortunate goal from Fernando Torres, when the ball took a kind deflection off his back from a Ramires shot to ensure it found the top corner, for the visitors to take the lead in the 51st minute.

Chelsea’s only moment of genuine quality came 22 minutes later, when Eden Hazard combined neatly with Oscar to set up Moses, who stabbed the ball into an unguarded net.

Moses has only just returned from a month at the Africa Cup of Nations, which he ended up winning with Nigeria. He hopes his success can inspire his team-mates for the rest of the campaign.

“I’m delighted to be back,” said Moses. “Winning the Africa Cup of Nations gave me a boost and a little more confidence to enjoy my football now.

“I just want to keep on playing and enjoying myself. When I go on the pitch I just want to work hard and help my team-mates out. That is the most important thing for me.

“We have to just keep working hard together as a team, trying to win games as much as we can. It’s not an easy League. We have quality players and if we can play together as a team, which we have been doing, I don’t see anyone stopping us.

“If we can get to the FA Cup Final, that will be nice for us. It’s not going to be as easy but hopefully we can beat United.”
