Closing in: Tottenham are expected to announce Wanyama's arrival in the coming days

Victor Wanyama is closing in on an £11million move to Tottenham after undergoing a medical.

The Southampton midfielder had his check on Monday and is expected to be announced as a Spurs player imminently.

Standard Sport reported earlier this month that Wanyama was a transfer priority for Tottenham as manager Mauricio Pochettino sought to improve his options in the centre.

Wanyama’s arrival may lead to the departure of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb. Tottenham will listen to offers for the pair, with Mason admired by Bournemouth and Crystal Palace while Bentaleb has attracted interest from clubs in France and Italy.

Wanyama, who turns 25 on Saturday, worked with Pochettino at Southampton before the Argentine moved to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2014. He tried to sign Wanyama last summer, with Spurs prepared to include Andros Townsend or Erik Lamela in a possible deal, but Saints stood firm.

Yet Wanyama has only 12 months left on his contract at Southampton and with the player unwilling to sign a new one, Saints have decided to cash in now rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.
