Wales XI vs Ukraine: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for World Cup playoff

Jonathan Gorrie5 June 2022

Destiny awaits either Wales or Ukraine in Cardiff later this evening.

Rob Page’s side are just one win away from a first World Cup since 1958 after beating Austria what must feel like an age ago. Finally, they have their chance.

Ukraine, meanwhile, overcame Scotland in emotional scenes and qualification for Qatar 2022 would be one of the feel-good stories of the year.

Wales, however, know they have a job to do in Cardiff.

Usually so strong in their own capital, Page rested many of his regulars for their Nations League loss to Poland and now welcomes them back.

Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Ben Davies and Joe Allen all start with Wayne Hennessey in goal.

Joe Morrell is available again after missing the semi-final win over Austria through suspension although he only makes the bench.

Wales XI: Hennessey; Roberts, Ampadu, Rodon, Davies, Williams; Allen, Ramsey; James, Bale, Moore

Subs: Ward, Davies, Gunter, Mepham, Wilson, Johnson, Morrell, Norrington-Davies, Williams, Harris, Thomas, Matondo

Ukraine XI: Bushchan; Karavaev, Zabarnyi, Matvienko, Mykolenko; Stepanenko; Yarmolenko, Malinovskyi, Zinchenko, Tsygankov; Yaremchuk

Subs: Riznyk, Dovbyk, Bondar, Kacharaba, Pyatov, Mudryk, Syrota, Sydorchuk, Sobol, Shaparenko, Pikhalyonok, Zubkov
