Borussia Dortmund players went over to their hardcore fans following last night's 1-0 home defeat by 10-man Augsburg which has rooted Jurgen Klopp's side to the bottom of the Bundesliga.

Roman Weidenfeller, the Dortmund keeper, and Mats Hummels both tried to calm down irate fans as the rest of the players stayed in the middle of the pitch with manager Klopp.

Weidenfeller even climbed the stadium fencing to try and speak to fans after Raul Bobadilla scored the only goal of the game in the 50th minute.

The result was more humiliating because Augsburg won the game with only ten players left on the pitch after Christoph Janker was sent off halfway through the second half for a foul on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Klopp said: "We can be accused of anything tonight and it is all justified. Battling also means having the courage to take the right decision. We were missing that tonight."

Dortmund have 16 points from 19 games but are only two points away from safety.

Hummels added: "If one is in this position after 19 games then it would be unacceptable not to have understanding for the fans' reactions."
