Roman Abramovich might have upset Chelsea fans after replacing the popular Roberto Di Matteo with the, er, unpopular Rafa Benitez but the Russian billionaire will soon have them back onside with another transfer splurge.

Abramovich has his eye on three of the hottest prospects in world football — all South American — as he bids to strengthen in January.

Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has a £44m clause in his contract.

The club will also launch a bid for Porto's James Rodriguez who has a release clause of £36m. And it will cost the Chelsea owner £48m if he wishes to prize Uruguay international Edinson Cavani from Napoli.
