FIFA have announced the final three nominees to be shortlisted for the 2014 FIFA Puskas award.

Manchester United man Robin van Persie is second favourite to win the award for his diving header against Spain, while Colombian James Rodriguez is odds-on to scoop the prize.

Both squeezed into the final shortlist for their quality efforts at the Brazil World Cup finals, but it is outsider Stephanie Roche who is stealing the headlines.

Roche's stunning effort for Irish Women's National League side Peamount United was plucked from a 10-goal longlist and deemed better than efforts from world stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa as she made the final cut.

The 25-year-old received a lofted ball on the edge of the box, juggled possession to shake her marker before sending an unstoppable volley past Wexford Youth's helpless goalkeeper.

Striker Roche has since landed a deal with French club ASPTT Albi and a Youtube clip of her strike has been viewed more than three million times.

The winner will be announced on January 12 2015.
