It was a game of ice and fire at Vicarage Road as an electronic advertising board started emitting smoke in the bitterly cold conditions.

During an otherwise uninspiring first half, visiting West Brom fans started chanting "Watford's burning down" as firemen used an extinguisher on the boards at the side of the Vicarage Road pitch.

The Premier League relegation clash between Watford and West Brom continued as the issue was resolved by a team of fire stewards and support staff.

Football writer Paul Brown tweeted at half-time: "One shot on target. One smoking advertising hoarding. Latter looked more dangerous than either of these teams..."
