The man who angered Roy Hodgson in his guise as Harry The Hornet has decided to quit as Watford’s mascot.

Hodgson was furious to learn Harry had mocked Wilfried Zaha by diving in front of him after the Crystal Palace forward had been booked for simulation during a game in December 2016 — before Hodgson took over.

Hodgson expressed his irritation before last month’s fixture between the sides at Vicarage Road, which Watford won 2-1.

But Gareth Evans, who wore the Hornet suit since 2008, has called it a day ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Manchester United.

He tweeted: “I have officially stepped away from being the match day mascot at #watfordfc my decision, proud of what I have achieved, the memories made and the experiences I’ve had — I was privileged and now heavy hearted also. Love you Harry!”
