Watford shareholders sell up

The takeover of Watford moved a step closer today when it emerged that three shareholders with a combined 53.95 per cent stake in the company have accepted offers from Watford FC Ltd.

The company, set up for the sole purpose of the takeover by orthopaedic surgeon Panos Thomas and financed by Laurence Bassini, is set to buy shares from Lord Ashcroft's company Fordwat Limited, Graham Simpson and his wife, Yianna.

Watford FC Ltd plan to significantly develop the Vicarage Road stadium and retain Graham Taylor as chairman.
