Quique Sanchez Flores has backed new Watford signing Mario Suarez to hit the ground running in the Premier League.

The Spanish midfielder joined from Fiorentina for £4million last week and is in the squad for tonight’s game against Chelsea.

Flores, who managed Suarez at Atletico Madrid, said: “He does not know at the moment how we play exactly but he knows me and I know this player. The adaptation time of top players is very quick.

“Chelsea are an amazing team but our expectation is very high and we are really positive we can do something good.”

Watford fans will have to wait until next season to see deadline day arrivals Abdoulaye Doucoure and Adalberto Penaranda, who were immediately loaned out to Granada.

Flores believes the signings Watford made during the transfer window are a sign of their ambition. “Watford fans should be happy because we will have a couple of very good young players coming to join us,” he said.

“It is amazing for our future. This is part of Watford’s target, to bid for younger players with quality, ambition and passion.

“I am totally satisfied with our work in the transfer window. It is a good sign for the future of our club that amazing players want to play for Watford now.”
