Watford captain Troy Deeney is hoping to be back outside running in 10 days as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

The striker underwent an operation back in August after he played the first two games of the season in pain.

Deeney is now working his way towards returning to full fitness and is hoping to back out on the pitch running in 10 days.

Until then, the 31-year-old is working hard indoors and has stepped up his recovery this week.

For the first time since surgery, Deeney was able to run by using an anti-gravity treadmill - which essentially means he is able jog by only putting his knee under the pressure of half his body weight.

The striker still has more work to do to return to full fitness, but he has been buoyed by the final bit of fluid being drained from his knee last week.

It means Deeney can now start working hard towards a return, although a date for his comeback has not yet been set.

Watford will not rush their captain back into action.

“I'm just starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” said Deeney.

“They are holding me back for my benefit, but when they let me go there will be no stopping me, so they are just trying to rein me in until it's safe medically and then I'll be going and pushing myself.”
