Wayne Rooney is England's all-time record goalscorer; no questions asked.

The 29-year-old forward finally surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton's tally of 49 during the 2-0 victory against Switzerland on Tuesday night.

The Manchester United striker has been on the verge of the achievement for some time and held his nerve to slot home a penalty late on to enter the record books and help the Three Lions continue their flawless Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Talk has now inevitably turned to whether Rooney deserves to be regarded as one of the nation's greatest players.

Although he is out on his own on a total of 50 goals he has featured in a different era to many of the men that feature towards the top of the list and only six of his goals have arrived at an international tournament.

But just as critics will attempt to dismantle the forward's achievement it is worth casting an eye over the moments of magic that Rooney has provided in a Three Lions shirt.

The FA have released a video of Rooney's top five England goals and - unsurprisingly - there are some cracking efforts that make the cut from the stunning long-range effort against Iceland to the thunderbolt in Russia,
