Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish took to Twitter to call on fans, players and staff to "stick together" after a fourth successive defeat in the Premier League.

A defensive error saw Chris Wood score the only goal as Burnley won 1-0 at Turf Moor, leaving the Eagles pointless and goalless this season, prompting fans to vent their anger on Twitter.

Parish responded, noting he usually avoided interacting with fans after a loss, by defending the club's efforts in the transfer market and underlined the frustration of those at Selhurst Park.

"Some sense!" Parish wrote. "We are four games in, it’s a terrible start but we have to stick together."

He then added: "I'm happy for people to vent at me, busk stops with me I've never run away from that (sic)."

After responding directly to a few fans, Parish continued with: "People are frustrated, I'm frustrated, so are the management and players. We know we are better than this..."

Parish appeared to hint he was happy with the squad strength - "we had a much-weaker squad when we finished 11th" - and noted the summer-long pursuit of Mamadou Sakho.

"We spent over £30 million on top of the 40m plus loan fees and wages in January," he wrote before adding: “We can’t just keep on spending and spending. 90 per cent of fans wanted Sakho, which was going to the limit of what we could do."

He also went onto say: “We had a much weaker squad when we finished 11th. Could this squad have beaten Huddersfield, Swansea and Burnley? And on our day Liverpool?”

Parish ended the impromptu question-and-answer session on a positive note.

He signed off by writing: "Anyway, so much for not answering people when we lose. Tough spot this. Looking forward to turning it round Saturday. Up The Palace!”
