We lacked killer touch, admits Kenny Jackett

No excuses: Millwall boss Kenny Jackett

Kenny Jackett rued a lack of creativity as his Millwall side were beaten 1-0 at home by Portsmouth.

Millwall were perhaps unlucky not to get anything from last night's game as they twice struck the woodwork but Jackett believes his team got what they deserved.

"We can play a lot better than that," he said. "We were very predictable and did not create enough."

Liam Lawrence scored the only goal from a penalty after Chris Hackett brought down David Nugent.

"I do think it was a penalty, I have no complaints," said Jackett.

The game opened up after a tight first half and Millwall were just inches away from scoring, as Hackett's drilled shot was deflected onto the head of Liam Trotter, who could only direct the ball onto the post.

Alan Dunne then saw his superb 20-yard effort skim off the bar but these chances came against the run of play. The visitors got their reward in the 78th minute, when Nugent made a skillful run into the Millwall penalty, where he was felled by Hackett.

Lawrence coolly sent David Forde the wrong way to inflict a defeat on Millwall which sees them drop one place in the table to 12th.

Although tempers were often fraught on the pitch,
Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill was impressed with the home fans.

"It's an intimidating crowd to play in front of but I had some good banter with them," he said.
