Werder Bremen have confirmed one of their first-team players has been placed in quarantine for two weeks after a member of their "personal circle" tested positive for the coronavirus.
The German outfit released a statement on Friday, on the eve of the resumption of the Bundesliga season, revealing the unnamed player will be self-isolating for 14 days.
The player has since been tested twice for Covid-19 and each test has come back negative, the club added.
A statement read: "A member of the SV Werder Bremen first team has been placed under a two-week quarantine, after a member of his personal circle tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week.
"Although the player himself tested negative during all previous rounds of testing, the decision to place him under quarantine was made in conjuction with the Bremen health authorities.
"The player has since tested negative on two occasions.
The Bundesliga gets back underway on Saturday, May 16 to mark the first major European league fixtures since the coronavirus pandemic forced nations to suspend their respective league seasons.
Werder Bremen are due to face Bayer Leverkusen two days later on Monday evening, leading to uncertainty over whether the game would go ahead.
However, after extensive tests were undertaken to determine if any players or staff were at risk came back negative, sporting director Frank Baumann said they were "not under any risk".
"This shows that the medical protocol is working and that infected individuals can be identified early on in order for the necessary measures to be implemented," he said.
