Manchester City secured yet another big victory at the London Stadium on Wednesday night after they thrashed West Ham 4-0 in the Premier League - just over three weeks after beating the Hammers 5-0 in the FA Cup.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the visitors in the 17th minute before David Silva doubled City's lead with his close-range effort four minutes later.

Gabriel Jesus, on his first Premier League start, then gave Pep Guardiola's side a comfortable 3-0 lead with his first top-flight goal six minutes before the break before Yaya Toure's penalty later in the second half ensured City moved level on points with fourth-placed Liverpool.

Both sides had come into the clash at the London Stadium full of confidence, with West Ham having won their last two league games while City disposed of Crystal Palace 3-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend.

And far from dwelling on the 5-0 thrashing here in the same competition earlier this month, West Ham began the match well in what was their first game since selling star man Dimitri Payet.

Despite the Hammers' positive start, however, it was City who threatened first when a second-minute corner was fired just wide by Raheem Sterling.

And it wouldn't be long before the visitors got their opener, which came through De Bruyne who capitalised on a poor error from Aaron Cresswell.

The full-back gave the ball straight to the Belgian in midfield before De Bruyne combined with Premier League debutant Jesus to drive past Darren Randolph in the 17th minute.

Things quickly went from bad to worse for West Ham when City then won the ball back in their own half and launched a counter attack through Leroy Sane.

The 21-year-old dribbled past Sam Byram and West Ham's new signing Jose Fonte all too easily before his shot took a deflection off Randolph and into the path of an unmarked Silva, who fired in from close range.

The Hammers attempted to battle back, and indeed had a great chance to score when Andy Carroll sent a lofty cross to Cresswell, who raced toward goal but drove over the bar despite having time and space to pick his shot.

City responded almost immediately and, moments after De Bruyne slipped and failed to tap in Sterling's pass from the right, Guardiola's side scored again through Jesus.

The Brazilian netted his first goal in the Premier League after Sterling unselfishly squared the ball, which had been delivered to him by the superb Sane, into the middle of the area where Jesus was waiting to drive home from close range.

The goal was the trigger for dozens of West Ham fans to start making their way out to get their half-time snacks and drinks, although many of the ones that returned would certainly have not liked what they then witnessed.

Slaven Bilic responded by sending on new signing Robert Snodgrass, but the forward's introduction could not inspire West Ham to an unlikely comeback despite the 29-year-old appealing for a late penalty after being caught by Willy Caballero's hand in the area.

The 4-0 loss for West Ham means the club sit in 11th place in the league standings while City move level on points with Liverpool but remain in fifth position.
