An “error in administration” forced several West Ham supporters to sit on the floor at the first Premier League match at the London Stadium.

During the Hammers 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Sunday pictures emerged on social media of fans without seats sat on the concrete ground of the stadium’s upper stand, with one supporter tweeting his disappointment to joint-chairman David Gold and chief executive Karren Brady.

In a statement the ground’s operators LS185 confirmed that the missing seats had been the responsibility of them and not the club, who are tenants at the 60,000-capacity venue.

“London Stadium wish to apologise to those West Ham season ticket holders who were unable to sit in their allocated seats for Sunday’s Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth.

“An error in administration meant that a small number of supporters had to use alternative seats after the issue was recognised by our event stewards.

“All affected seats will be re-installed as a matter of priority ahead of Thursday’s Europa League match.”

In a post on Twitter Brady confirmed that stadium operators LS185 would be compensating the 56 supporters who were without seating.

West Ham have yet to issue a statement on the matter, which the club are investigating.

Slaven Bilic’s side had already seen their home contingent limited ahead of the game against Bournemouth, with the London Stadium Safety Advisory Group announcing last week that the London Stadium capacity would be limited to 57,000, rather than its maximum of 60,000, due to concerns over home supporters standing during matches.

Brady has written to West Ham season ticket holders urging them to remain seated at the London Stadium.
