West Ham midfielder Joao Mario says his time at Inter Milan is behind him… despite the prospect of a possible return to the Nerazzuri at the end of the season.

Joao Mario joined West Ham on loan in January with the option for the Hammers to make the deal permanent when the campaign comes to an end.

However the Portugal international has offered little evidence over the six games he has featured in to convince the Hammers to part with the significant amount of money Inter would likely demand for a player who cost them £35million in the summer of 2016.

Yet Joao Mario is optimistic that he will not be going back to Milan when the season is over.

“I’m in a new league and I’m trying to adapt quickly,” Joao Mario said.

“I’m happy with my new adventure and I hope to finish the season well. Inter are part of my past now. I could have played more, but football is about that too.

“Now I’m happy and that’s what matters most.”
